As a family owned business with a rich Sicilian heritage, we love sharing why we think the Sicilian culture is so great. Not only are we very family oriented, but also we love to cook and have food as the staple of our family gatherings. And one of the most important things about our cooking are the spices, herbs and seasonings that go into our meals – true to Sicilian dishes.

Spices are very important to our heritage. They are not only important to our meals, but spices and herbs were literally used as a form of compensation or money throughout the years – thousands of years ago that is. Early explorers would bring Sicilian spices with them on their explorations and come back with non-native spices to introduce into culinary delights.

Basil, Parsley and garlic (best if used fresh and not dried) are staple ingredients in the Sicilian cooking culture. But a lot of other items that makes our dishes even better, including but not limited to:

  • Bay Leaves

  • Cilantro

  • Cinnamon

  • Cumin

  • Lemongrass

  • Mint

  • Nutmeg

  • Oregano

  • Paprika

  • Parsley

  • Pepper

  • Red Pepper

  • Rosemary

  • Saffron

  • Sage

  • Salt Thyme

  • Vanilla

There are so many spices we use to make our dishes delicious, but those listed above, if used with complimentary spices can make any Sicilian dish amazing. And if you eat with us at East Coast Pizza, you will be able to get a glimpse of our culinary and herb flavors in action.
