A Glimpse of Sicily

Sicily is an island off the Southern coast of Italy. It is part of Italy as a nation, but has its own cultural identity and is often quite different, yet similar to Italian culture. If we were to explain the cultural difference between North and South Italy we would be here for years, so below is a quick summary of a few basic concepts to show you the difference.

The Sicilian language has been shaped by many years of foreign influence, occupation and conquest. Unlike Italian which is almost entirely Latin based, Sicilian has elements of Greek, Arabic, French, Catalan, and Spanish. Not only are these cultural influences visible in the language, they are also visible in Sicilian architecture, physical appearance and overall mind set.

We, as Sicilians are very proud of our rich heritage, tradition and family. We have a rich culture of food, dance, art, music and more. You can taste our culture in every bite at East Coast Pizza. Come on in and find out for yourself.
